I've really been enjoying Tim Keller's new book, The Reason for God. Tim is the pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Manhattan (NYC) and will be speaking next week at Q in NYC, so I'm looking forward to hearing from him along with a bunch of others.
It's been a while since I've underlined text and scribbled notations in the margins of a book like I am with this one. Here are a few snippets that have stuck out to me from his book.
"The population is paradoxically growing both more religious and less religious at once."
"A faith without some doubts is like a human body without antibodies in it. People who blithely go through life too busy or indifferent to ask hard questions about why they believe as they do will find themselves defenseless against either the experience of tragedy or the probing questions of a smart skeptic."
"A person's faith can collapse almost overnight if she has failed over the years to listen patiently to her own doubts..."
"Skeptics must learn to look for a type of faith hidden within their reasoning. All doubts, however skeptical and cynical they may seem, are really a set of alternative beliefs. You cannot doubt Belief A except from a position of faith in Belief B."
"Every doubt....is based on a leap of faith."
And that's just from the Introduction. I'll share more later...
Man, that looks good. I'll have to read it... uh... this summer... *sigh*

Going through it right now and as a guy planting a church, we'll put this book in the hands of everyone who comes to be a part of Eternity...
My post today is on the chapter of The Problem With Sin"(written last night - promise I'm not piggybacking) and that chapter is simply profound...
No one like Keller out there today...
